The Women’s Committee was formed to track, support, and communicate progressive local policies to support our women.

Women’s Committee Report from October 17,2019: Jacqueline Elizalde reported that their goal is to find women to run for office. Karen Ickes, San Bernardino. The other thing they are looking at is human trafficking. They, along with Rubio Gonzalez, met with the vice team and heard the story of the sex worker issues in Pomona. They shared ideas of where they want to move forward. Then they met with Assemblyman Rodriguez and have reached out to Congresswoman Torres and Senator Leyva, as well as meeting with Mayor Sandoval to get support for community meetings on the issue. They will be setting dates for 2020. Rubio noted that they have 2 officers who if they run into a minor, they stop other enforcement and work on dealing with the issue of the minor. The PD would like another 2 officers to help with the human trafficking squad. They have a new mini task force. It is hoped that we can get a grant for the 2 extra officers. Jacky noted that they don’t have dedicated human trafficking vice team. Nora Garcia announced that there will be a fundraiser at El Jefe—see flyer–. She also talked about her self-defense event with Project Sister.
